Abstract

|
|
Effect of planting depth on growth and flowering in summer cultivation of cut freesia was investigated. Days to sprouting and flowering were delayed as the planting depth increased. Better growth in terms of plant height, number of leaves, leaf area was obtained at 6 §¯ depth than other treatments. Six §¯ depth was effective to increase marketable production because the distance from the first floret to the second was the shortest. The cut flower production at 6 §¯ depth plot was 135% higher than that of the 3 §¯ depth plot, and the marketable production rate of the cut flower was 90%. Corm and cormlet production were increased as planting depth decreased. Consequently, the planting at 6 §¯ depth was more effective than that of other planting depths on growth, flowering, and cut-flower production of freesia at summer season on southern sub-alpine area.
